4401 Liberty (Shursave) Development Community Meeting

A new building with approximately 220 market-rate rental units and 20,000 sq. ft. of first floor retail is being proposed for development at 4401 Liberty Avenue. The parcel to be redeveloped currently holds the Shursave IGA grocery store, Veterans of Foreign Wars building, and one vacant residence, as well as a large parking lot and double billboard. The plot is bordered by Liberty Ave, Howley St, Gangwish St, and Ella St.

Community Meeting to Review Demolition Proposed for 366 and 348 Gross Street

On December 5th, Bloomfield Development Corporation and Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation co-hosted a community meeting to review West Penn Hospital’s plans to demolish the Daly Building at 366 Gross Street and an adjacent house at 348 Gross Street. Community Meeting for Proposed New Development at 4652 Friendship Avenue and Pearl Street

On November 9th, Bloomfield Development Corporation hosted a community meeting to review proposed new development at 4652 Friendship Avenue and Pearl Street. The developer, Walnut Capital, and their architects, Rothschild Doyno Collaborative, are proposing to build 6 new town homes fronting on Pearl Street and spanning from Rosina Way to Friendship Avenue. Much of the community discussion centered on the impacts the development would have on both parking and property values/rental rates in the neighborhood.

With heavy traffic and out-of-date infrastructure, the Bloomfield Bridge/Liberty Ave/Main St intersection needs attention. Tell us what YOU think about the crossroads. Your insights will be used to develop a plan to create a safer intersection for walkers, bikers, transit riders, and drivers alike.

Bloomfield Livable Streets and Bloomfield Development Corporation will be conducting this survey during the month of October. The data that it produces will then inform the community’s vision for improving the accessibility of the intersection.

The Crossings: Coming to Bloomfield October 18!

Meet outside the ShurSave grocery store at 4pm on Oct. 18 for The Crossings: Bloomfield, a pop-up street demonstration to promote pedestrian safety at the Liberty Ave/Main St/Bloomfield Bridge intersection. Participants will cross together carrying signs (“Vulnerable together. Safer together”), dancing to music, and dressing in costumes — essentially putting on a show for drivers, residents, government officials, and media. With “Sole-Train”-themed music and costumes and an after-party, this will be a fun-filled event for a heart-warming cause—making these crosswalks safer for all.
